Following the success of our 2026 Rails Desktop Calendar, we're looking to make our 2027 edition even more special by giving our customers the chance to be a part of it - and what's more you could even win a Rails Gift Voucher for taking part!
Have you captured a fantastic railway photograph or a favourite view of your model railway layout? Your photo could be starring in the Rails of Sheffield 2027 desktop calendar – and winning you a £100 Rails voucher OR a £500 voucher for the star prize!
We’re inviting customers to submit their best railway photographs for a chance to feature in next year’s calendar. With your photo potentially seen by thousands of railway enthusiasts, it’s a brilliant opportunity to share your photography and celebrate the hobby we all love.
We’re looking for high-quality photographs of:
- Model railway layouts – from sweeping scenic views to carefully composed scenes that could almost pass for the real thing.
- Real railways – your favourite steam, diesel and electric railway shots, capturing memorable locomotives, locations and moments.
Whether you’ve spent hours perfecting a scene on your layout or were in just the right place to capture something special out on the railway, we’d love to see it!

We’ll be selecting 13 winning photographs to feature in our 2027 desktop calendar:
- 12 x ÂŁ100 Vouchers will be awarded to each of the 12 photographs selected for the calendar months (1 per customer)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Who is the promoter?
The competition is organised by Rails of Sheffield Ltd, 21–29 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield, S8 0RL. Competition enquiries should be sent in via our Google Form submission link.
Who is eligible?
The competition is open to anyone worldwide.
How do I enter?
Entry is free and no purchase is necessary. Entries must be submitted using our designated online entry form, with your name, email address, photograph and a brief description. Entries sent by email, social media or any other route will not be accepted.
When does the competition close?
Entries must be received by 5pm British Summer Time on Tuesday 22nd September 2026. Entries received after this time will not be considered.
How many entries can I make?
This competition is limited to one entry per customer. Give us your BEST SHOT!
What are the photograph requirements?
Entries must depict model railway layouts or real railways and be supplied as high-quality images suitable for printing. We may request the original or a higher-resolution version of your photograph to check its suitability for publication.
What about copyright and permissions?
You must own the copyright to your photograph or have the copyright holder’s permission both to enter it and to grant the rights described in these terms. Permission to upload an image alone is not sufficient. You must also have any other permissions necessary for its publication, including permissions relating to identifiable people where required. Copyright remains with the copyright holder.
How will your photograph be used?
By entering, you grant Rails of Sheffield a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce and publish your submitted photograph solely in connection with the 2027 calendar and this competition. This includes printing and distributing the calendar and related publicity on our website and social media channels. We may also use your photograph with credit within additional advertising campaigns in the future, via our website, social channels, print advertising or elsewhere. We may supply the image to designers and printers working on these purposes. This permission applies whether or not your photograph wins a prize; no additional payment will be due for these uses.
Will your photograph be edited and will I be credited?
We may crop, resize and make minor colour adjustments to photographs to suit the calendar layout, printing or online presentation. Each photograph used will be credited to its photographer, using the name supplied with the entry or another agreed credit. If submitting on someone else’s behalf, please provide the photographer’s name.
How will the competition be judged?
Thirteen winning photographs will be selected by a judging panel that includes an independent member. Entries will be assessed on photographic quality, composition, originality and suitability for a railway-themed calendar. The judges’ names will be available on request. Submitting a photograph does not guarantee selection or publication.
What are the prizes?
There are thirteen prizes in total, consisting of one £100 Rails Gift Voucher for each photograph selected for the calendar months as well as 1 x £500 Rails Gift Voucher for the image selected for the front cover. There are no alternative prizes or cash alternatives.
How will the winner be contacted?
Winners will be contacted using the email address provided with their entry as soon as possible after the competition and must respond within 5 working days. If a winner does not respond despite reasonable attempts to contact them, or does not meet these terms, the next highest-ranked eligible entry may be selected. Vouchers will be issued within 30 days of the competition closing date.
How will the winners be announced?
Winning photographs and photographer credits will be published in the calendar. Information confirming that prizes have been awarded will be available on request. Please contact info@railsofsheffield.com if you wish to object to, or limit, publication of your personal details so that we can agree an appropriate credit and announcement. Evidence of valid awards may still need to be supplied to the Advertising Standards Authority if requested.
How will my personal information be used?
We will use the details supplied through Google Forms to administer and judge the competition, contact winners, award prizes and arrange the publication and credits described above. Information may be shared with judges and calendar production providers where necessary for these purposes. Entering does not automatically subscribe you to marketing emails. About Invalid Entries
Entries that are incomplete, unreadable, fraudulent, unlawful or otherwise breach these terms may be disqualified. We may request evidence of eligibility or the permissions needed to use a photograph.
Acceptance
By submitting an entry, you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights.
