Installation & Layout Compatibility

Fitting your new magnetic couplings is incredibly simple—just gently push the coupling shaft directly into your model's standard NEM socket until it seats firmly into place.

Compatibility Notice:

• Standard Rolling Stock: These couplings are perfectly suited for standard NEM pockets across a vast array of modern manufacturers.

• Step-Down Connectors: Please note that these couplers are not suitable for use with rolling stock that requires step-down connectors (for example, Bachmann Mk1 coaches). On these specific models, the coupler will make contact with the chassis, causing friction that weakens the connection strength and impairs performance.

How to Use & Manage Polarity

To ensure smooth operation, it is vital to pay attention to the magnetic polarity when installing the couplers across your fleet.

The polarity of each coupling is clearly indicated by the small moulded bolts located on the side of the shaft near the magnet. 

• When equipping your rolling stock, ensure that the indicator bolts align correctly across your rakes so the magnets attract rather than repel each other.

• We recommend establishing a standard orientation across your layout (e.g., all indicator bolts facing the same side of the track) to allow total interchangeability of locomotives and rolling stock.

Care & Maintenance Instructions

While these couplings are designed for regular layout operation, they are precision-made modeling components and should be handled with care:

• Avoid Shock & Strong Impacts: Neodymium magnets are incredibly powerful. Avoid allowing the couplers to violently slam together or undergo hard impacts, as this sudden kinetic force can break the resin bonding holding the magnet in place.

• Simple Repairs: In the unlikely event that a magnet does come loose from its housing due to an impact, it can be easily repaired. Simply apply a tiny drop of high-quality superglue (cyanoacrylate) into the recess and re-seat the magnet, taking extra care to maintain the correct polarity facing outwards. Allow it to cure completely before putting it back into service. 

• Handling: When uncoupling stock by hand, gently twist or lift the cars apart rather than pulling them straight back with force to minimize unnecessary stress on the resin housings.
