60 five-unit WIA car carrier sets were ordered by BR’s Railfreight Distribution sector ahead of the opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994.  The WIA car carriers were designed to offer complete protection and are double-decked – the entire roof canopy can be raised or lowered as one unit to aid loading and unloading.

We are offering the following branding variations of WIA car carrier:

• Railfreight Distribution (RfD) – as delivered in 1994.
• Railfreight Distribution with Auto Care Europe (ACE) branding – ACE was a partnership comprising RfD, SNCB and Cobelfret
• Plain blue – on privatisation ownership passed to EWS
• DB Schenker branding – from around 2007 the DB Schenker was added to some intermediate cars
• DB branding (with Schenker painted over) – current

The articulation units have been designed to allow the model to comfortably negotiate R2 curves, and for added realism the customer will have the option, for the tail end car, of replacing the tension-lock coupler with a cosmetic air pipe, in either the loose or stowed position, and a control box moulding that clips into the NEM pocket to recreate the look of the real thing.

The models feature:

• NEM coupling pockets
• RP25 wheel sets designed for straightforward conversion to EM or P4 (26mm pinpoints on 2mm diameter axles)
• optional cosmetic air pipes and optional control box (clips into NEM pocket)
• high levels of detailing with numerous separately fitted plastic and photo-etched parts

All the models are a fixed rake of 5-units.  Unit length over buffers:  871mm.
