Product Description
Details:
The OSCAR EMESLETT steam locomotive is an extraordinary piece of modern railway history, recreating the world's newest steam locomotive and one of the most unusual locomotives to operate in Japan. Built specifically for the Sekisui Main Line at the SEKISUI KINZOKU CO., LTD. Tsurugaoka Factory in Tsurugashima City, Saitama Prefecture, OSCAR combines Japanese engineering with unmistakable British narrow-gauge railway influences.
Completed in 2024 by the RASSCHIJIN Railway Society, OSCAR carries the class name EMESLETT, reflecting the two distinctive inspirations behind its design. The locomotive takes its character from the whimsical steam locomotives illustrated by British artist Rowland Emett, together with the iconic Hunslet locomotives associated with Britain's industrial and narrow-gauge railway heritage.
The result is a uniquely characterful steam locomotive, featuring a tall, slender chimney, round-topped vertical boiler, open cab without a roof and extensive decorative detailing. Adding to its unusual appearance is a ship's steering wheel used as the regulator, further emphasising the imaginative design of this one-of-a-kind locomotive.
The model also features functional side rods designed to faithfully reproduce the movement of the locomotive's driving wheels. Coupling options include a dummy front coupler, an Arnold coupler and PECO-style couplers, providing flexibility for display and operational layouts.
