Product Description
RhB Ge4/4 II 611 Green Revival Livery Electric Loco VI
Details:
The KATO Rhätische Bahn Ge 4/4 II 611 recreates the distinctive Swiss metre-gauge electric locomotive in N scale with its restored historic green livery. The model accurately combines the locomotive's present-day appearance, including later square headlights and additional jumper sockets, with the green colour scheme and period markings of the RhB's earlier locomotives. Detailed roof equipment, large snowploughs and separately supplied front jumper sockets add authenticity, while a slotless motor provides smooth and quiet running. The model can haul up to 12 RhB passenger coaches on a 4% gradient and has a minimum radius of R150.
Features:
- Detailed RhB Ge 4/4 II 611 in restored green heritage livery
- Modern square headlights combined with historic colour scheme
- Detailed roof equipment and large snowploughs
- Slotless motor for smooth, quiet running
- Glacier Express short couplers supplied, with Arnold couplers included
Historical Background
The Rhätische Bahn Ge 4/4 II locomotives were introduced from 1973 and became one of the railway's principal electric locomotive classes. Their versatility has seen them employed on a wide range of services across the RhB network, from Glacier Express and other passenger trains to freight traffic and operations on mountain routes.
Although the Rhätische Bahn is now strongly associated with its red rolling stock, green was widely used on RhB locomotives and coaches until the 1980s. The preservation organisation GRÜN & CHROM has worked to recreate this historic appearance on operational vehicles. Ge 4/4 II 611, the first member of the class, was selected as the first locomotive for the project and was restored to an approximation of its original green appearance, with raised chrome-finished side lettering and nameplates. It entered service in this heritage appearance in spring 2023, marking 50 years since the Ge 4/4 II class entered service.
