Product Description

A General Utility Van (GUV) is a type of rail vehicle built by British Rail primarily for transporting mail and parcels.

Following nationalisation in 1948, BR had continued to build carriages to the designs of the "Big Four" companies (the Great Western, Southern, London Midland and Scottish and London and North Eastern railways), and the Mark 1 was intended to be the standard carriage design for use across all lines, incorporating the best features of each of the former companies' designs

They were constructed between 1956 and 1960 by BR York Wagons Works, BR Doncaster Works, BR Glasgow Works, and Pressed Steel Company and they had a load capacity of 14 tonnes.
