One of the most well known names in model railways in the UK, Hattons was founded in 1946 as a shop on Smithdown Road, Liverpool. Over the decades it grew into one of the hobby’s best-known retailers, expanding into mail order and online sales, customisation services and eventually producing its own highly regarded models under the Hattons Originals brand.

This special model celebrates that heritage in the familiar Hattons blue livery, complete with classic Hattons branding and distinctive ‘Return to Smithdown Rd’ lettering – a fitting nod to the company’s Liverpool roots.

The model uses the distinctive Gunpowder Van as its basis, a compact wagon type developed for the secure transport of explosives and other hazardous materials. Their unusual proportions and specialised purpose have made them a particularly recognisable part of Britain’s railway freight story, and an ideal canvas for this exclusive commemorative livery.
