The Circuitron DF-1 is a compact, all-in-one grade crossing control solution combining a single-direction train detection circuit with an integrated alternating flasher. Designed for model railway enthusiasts who do not require bi-directional detection, the DF-1 offers a cost-effective yet highly capable system for creating realistic automated crossing signals.

Using Circuitron’s proven opto-electronic detection technology, the DF-1 reliably detects approaching trains of any length—from a single locomotive to long freight consists—without requiring any modifications to rolling stock. It operates independently of track power and is fully compatible with DC, AC and DCC systems, making it suitable for virtually any layout configuration.

The integrated flasher section is equivalent in performance to Circuitron’s FL-2 system, providing powerful alternating signal outputs capable of driving multiple lamps or LEDs per side. In addition to crossing signal control, the DF-1 also includes an accessory ground output that can be used to trigger bells, gates, relays or other automation devices for enhanced realism.

The DF-1 supports a wide range of accessory configurations, with flasher outputs capable of driving up to two 250mA loads per side, equivalent to approximately four grain-of-wheat bulbs or up to ten LEDs per side. It can also be integrated with other Circuitron detection modules such as the DT-1, DT-2 or DT-3 to extend functionality across multi-track crossings or more complex layouts.
