Bradford Railways in Colour: Volume 3: The L&YR and GNR Lines After Steam
By Alan Whitaker & Jan Rapacz
This book is the third in the 'Bradford Railways in Colour' series and highlights all the major changes which have occurred on Bradford’s former Lancashire & Yorkshire and Great Northern lines in the half century since the demise of steam. It concentrates mainly on scenes and locations which have since disappeared and features a wide variety of first generation diesel types which are no longer in front-line service. The last of Bradford’s dwindling local goods services are also covered with rare views of operations on the former GNR lines between Shipley Windhill and Idle, St. Dunstan’s, Horton Park and City Road and Laisterdyke to Dudley Hill. All of these remnants had once been part of longer routes. Also included are the final operations from the ex-L&YR yard at Springmill Street, which closed shortly after Hammerton Street diesel depot fell by the wayside in 1984.
