Following the success of the ‘Terrier’, Stroudley provided the London Brighton & South Coast Railway with a dedicated passenger version – the ‘D’ 0-4-2T – in 1873. A goods version appeared the following year. This was the ‘E’, later called ‘E1’.
They might have looked like a stretched version of the ‘Terrier’ but they carved out a niche as a strong and capable performer.
Here’s the specification of the ‘OO’ gauge model:
- Designed from original works drawings and a wealth of photographic material
- LBSCR/Southern/IoW de-tail differences tooled
- Powerful mechanism
- Next18 decoder socket
- NEM coupler pockets
- Sprung buffers
- Factory-fitted speaker
