💙 Rails Supports the Caledonian Railway 828 Trust

On Saturday 31st August 2024, Rails of Sheffield were proud to attend the "Scottish Steam Up" Event at the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells and present the CR828 Trust with a donation towards the upkeep of their locomotive!

This one-off event marks the 125th anniversary of the Caledonian Railway 812 Class No.828 - the sole survivor of this beautiful Glasgow-built 0-6-0 steam class. The event also saw the Caledonian 439 Class No. 419 attend as a special guest too!

As you may be aware, we released a OO Gauge model of the Caledonian Railway 812 Class in partnership with Bachmann back in 2021. Each model sold of No. 828 in its current preserved Caledonian Railway colour scheme included a donation for the CR828 Trust to continue caring for the real life locomotive.

We are extremely pleased to have generated £2,000 in funds for the CR828 Trust, which we presented to them at this special event!

Owned by the CR828 Trust, No. 828 was built by the Caledonian Railway at in 1899. The locomotive was designed by J. F. Mcintosh to handle a variety of stopping passenger and express goods workings and is usually based at the Strathspey Railway. No. 828 has been on long-term loan to the Spa Valley Railway since March 2022 and has undergone some routine and heavy repairs during this time but the locomotive can regularly been seen operating along the line between Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge.
