Heljan have announced plans for a newly tooled range of Class 55 'Deltic' diesel locomotives - available for the first time ever in TT:120 Scale!
This exciting new tooling will bring this iconic diesel locomotive to TT:120, perfectly matches many of the existing items available in this scale and provides you with many new modelling opportunities to boot! The range incorporates a total of ten different models catering for BR green and BR blue liveried models in use with British Railways and in later preserved conditions too.
What's more - we are excited to announce that a whopping SIX of these new models are available exclusively from us here at Rails of Sheffield - celebrating all of the surviving Class 55s in preservation in various post-BR guises. A stunning collection that will appeal to Deltic fanatics and TT:120 builders alike!
Starting with a blank canvas in a new scale allows Heljan to set a high level of standard specification across all products, which includes high-quality mechanisms with small but powerful motors, new generation E24 compact DCC decoder interface, allowing up to 32 digital functions (dependent on decoder), factory fitted speakers, authentic lighting functions and superb attention to detail throughout. In addition, the Class 55 will be the first HELJAN TT 1:120 model to feature two āPower Packā capacitors to ensure smooth and uninterrupted performance when you need it. āPower Packsā willbe a standard feature on future TT 1:120 releases.

Prototype Information

A total of 22 Class 55 āDelticā locomotives were produced for British Rail in the early 1960s. The class featured the revolutionary Napier Deltic power unit, which housed its cylinders in an unusual triangular formation - with crankshafts at each corner. The Deltics dominated East-coast express traffic throughout most of the 1960s and 1970s, before being displaced by the HST. The class then saw use on semi-fast passenger and freight services before their withdrawal by the end of 1982. A total of six can still be seen in preservation today.
