Dapol have dusted off the tooling for their extremely popular OO Gauge LMS Stanier Suburban coaches and have reworked them with various upgrades! A New Batch has just arrived in stock including LMS lined maroon coaches!

Several years ago Dapol re-released their LMS suburban tooling after many years of being out of use. The resulting coaches produced were so popular in both ready to run and kit form that they ended up producing thousands and thousands of them prior to discontinuing the range again in 2018.

They have once again blown the dust off the tooling and made some modifications at their in-house tool shop at Chirk! This has resulted in a relaunch of these models including various improvements over previous models. As with many other Dapol models, these are produced entirely within the UK at their Chirk production facility.

This heritage Dapol/ Airfix tooling has been rejuvenated for 2025 with many new separately fitted parts, an upgraded bogie pivot fixing, new metal wheels and NEM tension lock couplings.

Prototype Information

These coaches were designed by William Stanier in the 1930s as flush sided metal clad versions of the previous LMS suburban coaches. The prototype managed to last in service as late as the mid 1960s, in BR use. The prototypes that Dapol's tooling is based on numbered 25 composites and 32 brake end coaches. The coaches appeared in three liveries throughout their service life; LMS lined maroon, BR Carmine and BR lined maroon.
