Prototype Information

The London and South Western railway constructed 36 sets of Cross County coaches between 1906 and 1910. The sets were originally comprised of four coaches, with each set containing a 1st/3rd composite coach, a 2nd/3rd composite coach and two Brake Third coaches. The 2nd/3rd composite coaches were removed in the mid-to-late 1930s, reducing each set to 3 coaches.
The coaches continued to be used for several years by both the Southern Railway and British Railways, with the last coach being withdrawn in the 1950s.
