Bespoke Lamp Configurations

Oil lamp configurations can be selected on applicable models as part of the Bespoke services. The images below give examples of where the lamps will be placed when selecting an oil lamp configuration. 


Many of the railway companies had their own notation over the years, so please make your selection based on the lamp placement that you would like.

Class A

Examples of uses include:

  • Express passenger, newspaper or breakdown train
  • Express diesel car
  • Snowplough on duty
  • Light engine proceeding to assist disabled train

Class B

Examples of uses include:

  • Ordinary passenger, branch passenger or mixed train
  • Rail-motor (loaded or empty) 
  • Parcels diesel car
  • Breakdown train not on duty
  • Snow plough not on duty

Class C

Examples of uses include:

  • Parcels, fish, fruit livestock, milk or other perishables with all vans fully fitted with continuous brakes
  • Empty coaching stock
  • Express freight, live stock perishable or ballast train fitted through out with automatic brakes on not less than half of the vehicles

Class D

Examples of uses include:

  • Express freight, live stock, perishables or ballast train partly fitted with automatic brakes on not less than one third of the vehicles

Class E

Examples of uses include:

  • Express freight, live stock perishable or ballast train partly fitted with automatic brakes on not less than four of the vehicles
  • Express freight, live stock, perishables or ballast train with a limited load of vehicles not fitted with continuous brakes

Class F

Examples of uses include:

  • Express freight, live stock perishable or ballast train not fitted with continuous brakes

Class G

Examples of uses include:

  • Light engine
  • Engine coupled with not more than two brake vans

Class H

Examples of uses include:

  • Through freight or ballast train not running under class C, D, E, or F regulations

Class J

Examples of uses include:

  • Mineral or empty wagon train

Class K

Examples of uses include:

  • Branch or pick-up freight, mineral or ballast train

Royal Train
