Rapido Trains UK Announce New N Gauge 'Three Peaks' Project!

Rapido plan to fill one of the biggest gaps in the N Gauge market with an all new range of 'Peaks'. This nickname covers three distinct classes, one of which is covered today:
 
  • Class 44: ten built in 1959-1960; Sulzer 12LDA28A 2,300hp engine, Crompton-Parkinson electrical equipment
  • Class 45: 127 built (1960-62); Sulzer 12LDA28B 2,500hp engine, Crompton-Parkinson electrical equipment
  • Class 46: 56 built (1961-63); Sulzer 12LDA28B 2,500hp engine, Brush electrical equipment
The first models announced in this range are the head of the family the Class 44s (expect more news in the future on the Class 45/46.

Our new Class 44 features a variety of detail differences, including plated-over steps on the body side, removal of inner sandboxes and extra steps on the bogies. Our intention is to produce the definitive 'N' gauge Class 44.
 

The 'Three Peaks' will positively bristle with features, including directional lighting, Next18 DCC decoder socket, separately fitted handrails and windscreen wipers, 'plug in' discs so you can apply your chosen headcode and etched radiator fan grill with separate fan underneath.

No final prices have been confirmed by Rapido as of yet, but Rapido have confirmed the versions (each model will have DCC Ready & DCC Sound versions) see below:

948002: Class 44 D7 Ingleborough, plain BR green
948003: Class 44 D2 Helvellyn, BR green, SYP and white body stripe
948004: Class 44 D5 Cross Fell, BR green, SYP
948005: Class 44 6/D6 Whernside, BR green, FYE
948006: Class 44 3 Skiddaw, BR blue
948007: Class 44 44007 Ingleborough, BR blue
948008: Class 44 440008/D8 Penyghent, preserved BR blue (1979-1981)
948009: Class 44 D4 Great Gable, BR blue (preserved 2022)
