KR Models have revealed a decorated sample for their newly tooled range of GWR 'Mica B' refrigerated vans in OO Gauge!

These all-new models are presented either as single wagons or as packs of 3. They feature many fine details including fully modelled brake rigging with shoes that line up with the chemically blackened wheelsets. Tie bars are modelled between the W irons and J hangers are present that would hold and steady the brake rigging on the prototypes. KR have also included brass bearing cups in the W irons which make for super smooth and reliable running and prevent the axle pinpoints from slowly reaming out the W irons in use. Other features include separately fitted metal handrails, roof hopper lids, vacuum standards and footsteps.

These models are now in production and are currently expected to arrive during Winter 2024.

'MICA B' was the GWR's telegraphic code for Refrigerated meat vans, fitted with ventilation. 149 diagram X8 MICA B vans were built in the mid-1920s and were mainly used to transport chilled beef carcasses from ports such as Birkenhead to markets at Smithfield and elsewhere.

The vehicles were fitted with a revolutionary carbonic acid machine to keep the perishable goods fresh, with roof mounted trapdoors for loading dry ice. The interiors featured hooks for hanging the meat.
