What's new from the Rails Bespoke team? 

At Rails of Sheffield, we know that no two modellers are the same.

Whether you’re recreating a favourite locomotive, completing a specific era, or adding extra realism to your layout, our Bespoke team is here to bring your vision to life. From subtle weathering and detailing to sound fitting, lighting and finishing touches, every model is carefully customised by hand by our experienced team of enthusiasts and specialists.

Today, we’re showcasing a selection of recent bespoke projects from the workshop — including weathered locomotives and rolling stock finished to add authentic character and realism. You’ll also find links to shop the featured items and discover products available with Bespoke customisation options.

First in this edition is our EXCLUSIVE Bachmann LMS 10000 in striking black and chrome, expertly semi-heavily weathered by the Rails Bespoke team. Designed to capture the locomotive after a particularly demanding stint in service, the finish features authentic layers of grime, track dirt and operational wear, helping to recreate the hard-worked appearance these pioneering diesel locomotives would quickly have acquired on the network.

While the real-life Caledonian No.828 is kept in perfect condition thanks to our friends at the CR 828 Trust and their squad of volunteers, that doesn't mean that the locomotive has never found itself wearing a tiny bit of filth in the past. Our team have showcased this here with a light dusting of grime after a heavy week's work! 

Our new batch of these exquisite locomotives is set to arrive in stock very soon - and once they arrive you will be able to specify these bespoke services for yourself.

Also featured here are our two EXCLUSIVE Bachmann OO Gauge BR Mk1 BSK coaches — 'Laboratory 12' and 'Test Car 5' — finished in the distinctive BR RTC red and blue livery and treated to a subtle light weathering finish by the Rails Bespoke team.

Carefully applied layers of dirt and operational grime help enhance the realism of these unique vehicles, with fine detailing including streaking and grime running down from the window edges to reflect the appearance of stock in regular departmental service.

The result is an understated but highly effective finish that adds extra depth and authenticity while preserving the striking RTC colour scheme

Finally, we’re showcasing a Hornby OO Gauge L&MR Rocket 0-2-2 which has been expertly fitted with DCC sound and a stay alive system by the Rails Bespoke team.

Working within the incredibly limited space available inside models such as Rocket makes installations like this a real technical achievement, requiring careful planning and precision fitting throughout. Despite the extensive work carried out, modifications remain almost completely hidden from view, preserving the model’s original appearance while dramatically enhancing operation and realism.
