For the first time ever, we’re stocking Rapido Trains UK’s OO Gauge Class 16xx Pannier Tanks at Rails of Sheffield - and we’ve managed to secure them at some seriously tempting prices.
Selected models are available from just £89.50 each, representing up to 38% off the RRP - making these detailed little steam locomotives fantastic value and a great opportunity to add one to your fleet for less.
The Class 16xx was a compact Western Region design, ideally suited to branch line, yard and local duties. These premium models feature a wealth of separately fitted parts, a powerful mechanism with a coreless motor, firebox glow effect and NEXT-18 DCC capability.
At under £90 for most of the range, we don’t expect these to hang around for too long. This is an amazing opportunity to bring an iconic Pannier home to your collection! We have limited stocks of some lines available right now with the rest of the batch arriving imminently - place your orders today to ensure yours is secured!
We've got a massive range of liveries and conditions available covering the entirety of the 16xx story! These plucky little Panniers were effectively the bookend of the GWR "Pannier" lineage, a locomotive type that had been used in the region for decades. The 16xxs were developed too late for service with the GWR and were all pressed into use with BR instead.
The preserved example '1638' has toured the UK extensively so is particularly suitable for all sorts of different layouts! You might also like the versions fitted with the unusual 'Busby' chimney - four examples featured this spark arrestor for use on munitions branches.

Prototype Information
The GWR 1600 class were a fleet of 70 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotives designed for use on light branch-line passenger services, short-distance freight transfers and shunting duties. Although entirely a GWR design, by Frederick Hawksworth, all of the class were built and used by the Western region of Britsih Railways after nationalisation. When the last locomotive was built, the basic design was over 80 years old and it was the last GWR-designed locomotive to be constructed at Swindon works. The class had a short life with BR, with withdrawals starting in 1959 and ending in 1966. Some were used by the National Coal Board into the 1960s. A single member of the class was prevered - No. 1638.
