D6865 entered service in August 1963 and was first allocated to Landore Depot at Swansea, running in BR green with small yellow warning panels. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom December 1966 it moved to York and in January 1969 received air brakes and had its steam heating boiler removed, effectively making it suitable only as a freight engine, and was repainted into BR blue with full yellow ends in the following June.
