It was built as an inspection saloon replacement, and is also used to entertain corporate clients. The train cost £3 million and took only nine months from concept to completion.

During the time that Keith Heller was CEO, Infleet Technology was commissioned to design the train.[6] The train was assembled as the replacement for the company's aging inspection saloon and is used for entertaining corporate clients, for staff trips, managers, customers, functions, and as a "moving office". In the first year of operation the Macmillan Cancer Support charity were allowed to use the train for fund-raising.

The fixed configuration set consists of three British Rail Mark 3 coaches between a Mark 3 driving van trailer and Class 67 Locomotive. The interior of the train was converted to a business/office/corporate entertainment environment, including a 'conference coach' room with 50-inch cinema screen, and seven-metre-long conference table, a dining coach, and a sleeper coach with bedrooms and en-suite washing facilities. The trainset was fitted with a wiring system allowing the Class 67 to work in push–pull mode with the DVT and Mark 3 coaches.

In addition to normal inter-carriage connections this includes the addition of Multiple Working Jumper cable, and Cab to Train Data cable. The DVT retains its Time Division Multiplexer (TDM) support but this is isolated and non-operational unless the company train is operating in push-pull mode with a Class 90 locomotive. Locomotive 67029 was also modified to include a remotely activatable fire-suppression system and received a slight modification to the auto-couplers to enable connecting to the existing Mk3 buckeye couplers without touching the coach's rubbing plate although it is normally attached using buffer-and-chain coupling.

When not in use hauling the company train 67029 is used for normal railway working. The train is explicitly exempted from regulations covering "Working of Passenger Trains Over Non-Passenger Lines", allowing the train to operate between freight depots without additional documentation requirements. The train does not carry passengers per-se with all those on-board regarded as either staff or invited guests.

MK3 COACH FEATURES

Metal Wheels

NEM coupling as standard

Separately applied wire hand rails

Detailed Printing and Livery Detail

Highly detailed body, underframe, and bogies

DVT FEATURES

Finely detailed body with many extra fitted items

All wheel electrical pick up

Directional lights

6-Pin Decoder Socket

Accessory bag with optional fitted parts.

SPECIFICATIONS

OWNER DB Cargo UK

LIVERY DB Management Train

PAINT FINISH Pristine

MK3 COACH MEASUREMENTS

LENGTH 153mm

WIDTH 18mm

HEIGHT 26mm

DVT MEASUREMENTS

LENGTH 130mm

WIDTH 18mm

HEIGHT 26mm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0225/2858/9896/files/IMG_1134_2dfbfd1f-ec8f-479f-b2d4-d3ab7f28d02b.jpg?v=1727874883
dapol-2d-017-101-chiltern-railways-mainline-8-piece-slam-door-set-with-dvt
2D-017-101 Chiltern Railways 'Mainline' 8 Piece Slam Door Set with DVT

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN UNMOTORISED MODEL.

Consisting of:

5x Mk3a TSO,

2 x Mk3a FO

1 x Mk3 DVT

DVT 82305

Coaches 12054, 12119, 12036, 11031,l 12041, 11029, 12017

The Dapol Mk3 DVT features:

Finely detailed body with many extra fitted items

All wheel electrical pick up

Directional lights

6-Pin Decoder Socket

Accessory bag with optional fitted parts

A Driving Van Trailer (DVT) is a purpose-built control car railway vehicle that allows the driver to operate with a locomotive in push-pull formation from the opposite end of a train. Sleeping cars were also included, along with various general merchandise and specialised Post Office vans – some of which were equipped with apparatus to allow mail to be collected and set down on the move. On the bodysides each door is complete with hinges, handles and even door bumper details, whilst even the sliding window ventilators are discernible. Footboards are present on the solebars below each door whilst the underframe sports a full complement of equipment, with the truss rod frames modelled in all their glory and flanked by battery boxes, vacuum cylinders, dynamo and, where appropriate, other auxiliary equipment.

The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, which operates in tandem with the bogie. Sharing many aspects of its design and features with the Passenger Luggage Vans (PLV, later designated ‘PMV’ by BR), the CCTs differed by having a pair of full width doors at each end, allowing motor vehicles to be loaded and indeed the SR applied the code ‘Covcar’ to many examples, denoting their use as covered car carriers. In addition to transporting motor vehicles and carriages, the CCTs were used to convey all manner of parcels and general merchandise and being express rated, they could run at speed and were often included as part of passenger trains. Construction continued after Nationalisation, however the final examples built had plywood sides – by this time BR had designated them as Covered Carraige Trucks (CCT). These were large vehicles with a 21ft wheelbase and construction was from a metal frame with even planking on the sides and ends. The vans remained in traffic until the 1980s, with some surviving later still, in departmental use.

The Graham Farish model is highly detailed and carries all the hallmarks of the prototype, from the distinctive roof profile found on many SR vans to the planked panelling – with ‘2+2’ planks on the sides and even planks on the doors – and angled metal framework. Ventilators were fitted along the lower part of the bodysides whilst two pairs of double doors were provided on each side of the van to aid loading and unloading – all are featured on the model including representations of the door locking mechanisms. Four ventilators were also fitted at each end, integrated into the double doors, and these too are modelled accurately. Underneath these doors are footsteps which are added individually, below which the underframe is modelled in all its glory including brake apparatus along with the finely detailed axleboxes, into which metal wheelsets are fitted. An extensive range of vehicles was introduced to cover all manner of traffic demands and mixed uses that the railway took in its stride in the 1950s: from buffet counter catering to full restaurant service, First and Second Class accommodation including composite vehicles with some of each, guards’ brake vans and luggage/ newspapers/ parcels/ animal space, sleeping cars, various general merchandise and specialised Post Office vans and niche use vehicles constructed in small numbers such as horse boxes. These non-passenger vehicles were shorter in length (usually at 57 feet) than the standard 63 feet of their passenger counterparts.

The more common types that made up the majority of express and secondary passenger trains include First and Second Class, Composite, Open and Corridor, Suburban (compartment only), Brake, Buffet, Restaurant, and Sleeping cars. The study of prototypical train formations is an entire subject, and Graham Farish provides the range of models to create these trains in model form.

During their working lives, Mk1 coaches have formed the backbone of all locomotive-hauled BR services at one time or another, until replacement by later Mk2 coaches, or multiple unit stock, in the case of many of the Mk1 Suburban non-corridor fleet. Many famous named trains such as the Flying Scotsman, Belfast Boat Express (a late steam turn that lasted into 1968), The Cornishman, Irish Mail, Thames-Clyde Express, Atlantic Coast Express (ACE), The Waverley, the Caledonian, Devonian, Mayflower and Master Cutler all comprised Mk1 coaches when newly introduced. In other cases they ran within or alongside train formations such as the Yorkshire Pullman, and made up the then numerous sleeper services that covered the length and breadth of the sixties railway network during the hours of darkness.

Loco-hauled Mk1s were in front line service for half a century, whilst their EMU counterparts and Thumper units lasted until the mid-2000s. As a result, the Mk1 family has carried the widest range of liveries of any passenger rated rolling stock, with only private owner wagons presenting a greater variety in UK railway history. Mk1s have worn BR Carmine and Cream, BR Western Region Chocolate and Cream, BR Southern Green, BR Maroon, BR Blue, Blue and Grey, InterCity Executive, InterCity Charter, Network South East, Regional Railways, ScotRail, Sealink, Departmental, BR Exhibitions, Royal Mail, Travelling Post Office, Rail Express Systems, Provincial Trans Pennine, Parcels Red, West Highland Green and Cream, not to say a myriad of post-privatisation and heritage colour schemes in preservation.
