privately-owned locomotive to operate regularly in the UK. The ordering of the first Class 59 was a result of quarry company Foster Yeoman’s dissatisfaction with the performance of the BR Class 56. The first 4 locomotives built by GM’s Electromotive Division were delivered to Foster Yeoman during 1986 and 59005 in 1989 proving very successful; one locomotive setting a new UK haulage record for a single locomotive of 4639 tonnes. Foster Yeomans rivals, Amey Roadstone Corp. (ARC) also ordered four modified Class 59s (59/1) as did National Power, who ordered six (59/2). GM invested in this initial UK success by extensively modifying the class 59 internally to produce the Class 66, also hugely successful, within both the UK and continental Europe. Other than 59003 (which after return from loan to HHPI in Germany, is operated by GBRf), the Class 59 fleet is operated today by DB Schenker and Mendip Rail (an ARC and FY joint venture).

Specifications

Our latest Next Generation Diesel model, incorporating Dapol’s re-designed chassis and electronics. The train cost £3 million and took only nine months from concept to completion.

During the time that Keith Heller was CEO, Infleet Technology was commissioned to design the train.[6] The train was assembled as the replacement for the company's aging inspection saloon and is used for entertaining corporate clients, for staff trips, managers, customers, functions, and as a "moving office". In the first year of operation the Macmillan Cancer Support charity were allowed to use the train for fund-raising.

The fixed configuration set consists of three British Rail Mark 3 coaches between a Mark 3 driving van trailer and Class 67 Locomotive. The interior of the train was converted to a business/office/corporate entertainment environment, including a 'conference coach' room with 50-inch cinema screen, and seven-metre-long conference table, a dining coach, and a sleeper coach with bedrooms and en-suite washing facilities. The trainset was fitted with a wiring system allowing the Class 67 to work in push–pull mode with the DVT and Mark 3 coaches.

In addition to normal inter-carriage connections this includes the addition of Multiple Working Jumper cable, and Cab to Train Data cable. The DVT retains its Time Division Multiplexer (TDM) support but this is isolated and non-operational unless the company train is operating in push-pull mode with a Class 90 locomotive. Locomotive 67029 was also modified to include a remotely activatable fire-suppression system and received a slight modification to the auto-couplers to enable connecting to the existing Mk3 buckeye couplers without touching the coach's rubbing plate although it is normally attached using buffer-and-chain coupling.

When not in use hauling the company train 67029 is used for normal railway working. The train is explicitly exempted from regulations covering "Working of Passenger Trains Over Non-Passenger Lines", allowing the train to operate between freight depots without additional documentation requirements. The ordering of the first Class 59 was a result of quarry company Foster Yeoman’s dissatisfaction with the performance of the BR Class 56. The first 4 locomotives built by GM’s Electromotive Division were delivered to Foster Yeoman during 1986 and 59005 in 1989.

Proving very successful; one locomotive setting a new UK haulage record for a single locomotive of 4639 tonnes. Foster Yeoman’s rivals, Amey Roadstone Corp.

MODEL
These great little models feature lots of details including etched grills, directional lighting, and finely printed external logos and numbering.

FEATURES

DCC Fitted

Clag smoke simulation on initial acceleration

Finely moulded body with many applied fine details

Printed name plates (Etched plates supplied separately)

Cast wheels with fine relief and appropriate colouring

Heavy diecast chassis

All wheel pick up

Independently directional lights and cab lighting incorporated

NEM Coupling pockets

SPECIFICATIONS

CLASS 59

LIVERY National Power

ERA 9 (1995 - 2005)

WHEEL CONFIGURATION Co-Co

DCC TYPE DCC Fitted

TRACK SUPPLY DCC

FINISH Pristine

MEASUREMENTS

LENGTH OVER BUFFER 278mm

WIDTH 34mm

HEIGHT 49mm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0225/2858/9896/products/MG_1741_fbc784ee-3270-4d5b-8222-526e5ea18d59.jpg?v=1670598961
dapol-7d-008-014d-class-08-intercity-08795-swansea-dcc-sound
7D-008-014D Class 08 Intercity 08795 Swansea Diesel Shunter Locomotive - DCC Sound

The class 08 diesel electric locomotive is one of the most common diesels developed for British railway usage. Unfortunately with the introduction of fixed rake wagons and multiple units, the need for shunting locomotive diminished and many of these locomotives were either scrapped or sold overseas.

These stunning reproductions of one of the most popular shunting locomotives will really stand out on any O Gauge model railway and with the smooth motion and slow running characteristics they will surely take pride of place in any goods yard or station scene.

LOCOMOTIVE DETAILS:

Class: 08

Livery: Intercity (Grey / White)

Era: 5 (1957 - 1966)

Wheel Configuration: 0-6-0

Finish: Pristine

SPECIFICATIONS:

Decoder: Fitted

Sound: Installed

Couplings: 3-Link

Minimum Radius: Radius 1

Track Supply: 2 Rail DCC

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0225/2858/9896/products/7D-008-014.IMG_9413_762846c2-36e2-4dbe-93e1-b98913265e95.jpg?v=1623333029
dapol-7d-066-001-class-66-001-ews-livery-diesel-locomotive
7D-066-001 Class 66 001 EWS Livery Diesel Locomotive

Expected Delivery September 2026 (Subject to Change at Manufacturer's Discretion).

Revised Specifications

Electrical

• Operating front/rear lights (independent operation for DCC, (switched for DC use) Includes day/night mode)
• Operating ‘side’ lights (where lighting cluster is applicable)
• Cab light (independent operation)
• Detailed cab with illuminated cab control panel
• Two motors (balanced & matched) for maximum pulling power and slow speed running control
• DC control switches to be accessible via lift-off roof panel.
• DCC Ready with two PLUX 22 decoder sockets - DCC Fitted Options available
• Factory sound fitted models to be fitted with RealDrive

Chassis & Body

• Etched grills now with added detail showing radiator equipment with engine room lighting
• Separate detail (Handrails, Handles, Grills etc.)
• Heavyweight Diecast chassis
• Diecast bogie frames
• Rotating axle centres
• Appropriate couplings attached
• O gauge society wheel profiles
• Sprung buffers
• Interchangeable front buffer beams with the option for an auto coupler to be used. On 10 August 1987, the British Railways Board issued a competitive tender for response by 7 November, for a fleet of 100 locomotives. Of the six companies invited to tender, only three bid responses were received.

Metro-Cammell offered a Metro-Cammell body with an option of traction packages, many untried, and could not offer performance guarantees as stipulated by the tender. General Electric Company offered a state-of-the-art Class 59, built in the UK, probably at Crewe Works, which had an existing partnership for construction of the Class 91 electric locos. Brush Traction offered a locomotive powered by either a Mirrlees or Ruston engine, and used separately excited (Sepex) traction control, as previously tested on the Class 58.

Of the three bidders, Brush was selected, and an order was placed for 100 locomotives in a deal worth around £120 million. Brush sub-contracted parts construction, with final construction at Brush's erecting shops at Loughborough. The bodyshells, shared with the Class 92 electric locomotives, were fabricated by Procor (UK) of Wakefield. The engine was a higher-powered development of the Mirrlees engine previously used in some Class 37/9s.
