The LMS Twins Project
Following recent announcements from a competitive manufacturer / retailer partnership, a number of discussions have taken place within Rails and with Bachmann Europe Ltd.
The good news is that our project continues apace. Our competitors have set a very aggressive target date for their first release and only time will tell if this will be achieved.
When we initially announced our project, we made it quite clear that we would solicit expressions of interest to help us determine which would be the most popular liveries and which liveries were not. It is now clear, following this feedback, that it is not commercially viable to proceed with some of these liveries. Details will be published on this site shortly.
However, it is almost certain that the first release will be of both locomotives in their original black and chrome liveries, with 10000 carrying the LMS lettering on the body side. Locomotive 10001 did not carry LMS lettering as it was not completed until after nationalisation.
In addition to both locomotives being available separately, we will also be producing a presentation box set containing both locomotives along with a certificate and a Royal Scot headboard.
We are not in a position to provide final prices until the detailed design work has been completed.Final prices will be published as soon as possible.

The LMS Twins Partnership
We are really excited about this project and are delighted that Bachmann accepted our proposal to produce these iconic locomotives. We feel that there are limits as to how many more limited edition class 47s or 37s the market can sustain so we wanted to come up with something innovative, had the ‘wow factor’ and captured the modelling public’s imagination. These locomotives represent significant investment, particularly
allowing for the all new tooling costs and the subtle differences
between the two locomotives, but we want to produce models that
represent prototypical accuracy at a reasonable price.
Graham Hubbard, Managing Director for Bachmann Europe, commented:
“We were approached by Rails of Sheffield earlier this year with a view to producing these popular locomotives in partnership with them. Our response was a very positive one and following recent detailed discussions with the production facility in China, the first release could be available in early 2012.
With each loco carrying a number of liveries, there are plenty of options to look at in terms of potential releases. We are now progressing with the detail design work, which will take account of the differences between the two locos and the modifications that were applied to both locos during their time in service.”
